“Terrible! I keep plugging away at my art, struggling to generate interest, hoping to find an audience, even daring to yearn for some accolades, but all I get are rejections, indifference, and the fear that things won’t get any better than this.”
“But why so glum? Sounds to me like you’re a very lucky person.”
“Lucky? Seriously? I’m starting to get the feeling that I’ve wasted my life on a fruitless effort.”
“But your life has direction, purpose, a reason for being, and that is the greatest gift your art has provided for you.”

Makes sense, I’ve always felt the tension of those two forces. Also reminds me of the saying that an artist is someone who wants to be seen and hidden at the same time.
