(A flash fiction piece prompted by Carrot Ranch, the theme of this one is the three word phrase I Got Life, which has to appear somewhere in the story. Link to the prompt is below.)
June 25: Flash Fiction Challenge
Father ran out of the closet holding a board game. “Hey, look what I got. Life!”
“Another old people’s game?” son moped.
“Yeah, those those things are so passé,” daughter dismissed.
“It’s a classic!” father insisted.
“The kids these days just aren’t into board games,” mother said.
“But they’re so much fun!” father pleaded.
“We’ve already played a ton of board games because of this sucky quarantine!” son complained.
“We’re bored of board games,” daughter said.
“Then how about more stories of my high school glory days,” father said dreamily, “back when I-”
“Please! No more! We’ll play Life.”

wanted to let you know that my tuxedo cat, Kalimba, passed away this past Thursday… he passed in my lap, at home and is now buried in one of my gardens 😦

Haha. What a great take and I can so relate. I have tried to get my nephews to play board games to no avail – next time I might offer board game or memories.

The video games that were first coming out when I was a youngster seem to have displaced board games, card games, and most other non-electronic fun.
Perhaps your nephews will prefer the memories. 🙂

LOL I’m actually lucky to get them out of their rooms off their computers when they come to visit. It would have been much cheaper for them to stay home.
