Escape From Jury Duty

Video of my short movie Escape From Jury Duty which was shot on September 3, 2023 and premiered two and half months later on November 17. Originally I was going to shoot this in the conference room at the Satellite Workspace and use it as the jury assembly room. I reserved the room ahead of time, but on the day of the shoot the room was locked, and because it was a Sunday no one was there to unlock it. We couldn’t reschedule so we had to shoot it that day. We looked around the Satellite and decided on the Community TV studio at the back of the building, which is why the setting looks more like a TV studio instead of a jury assembly room. Other than that setback making this little movie was a fun experience, all the actors were dialed in, and they were all in sync with each other. I’d love to do this again.

What I learned from making this little movie is that a lot of people have jury duty stories, so I think I tapped into a common theme with this work.

I originally shot this in color, but the editor and I had it switched to black and white during the editing process because b&w hides flaws. it’s also an homage to 12 Angry Men, which is the antitheses of EFJD.
