New Live TV Project

I’m going to revive my old live cablecast/webcast anthology program at Community Television of Santa Cruz with a short comedic stage play about a couple with marital problems who see a friend to help them through their impasse. We had our first rehearsal last Tuesday night and we were off to a good start. I was a little nervous before rehearsal because my mind was so wrapped up in another project that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to focus, but as soon as we got started I forgot all about that other project.

My approach was to break the play down into three sections and work on the first third for the first rehearsal. The play takes place in one continuous scene so the breaks occur from mood changes rather than events. Such tonal transformations are less obvious and take some effort to find, fortunately the three actors are up to the challenge.

Cast of still untitled one act play, left to right; Ian Dyer, Jackson
Wolffe, and Lindsay Lemmer.

My old program was titled Pacific Television Theater and I put on six episodes from 2016 to 2019 before Community TV studio closed because of the pandemic. This new version will be called Studio One Television Theater, a tribute to the former CBS classic live drama anthology program that aired from 1948 to 1958, the Golden Age of Television. I’m also going to accept outside scripts for this revival. Will be posting more about this project as it moves ahead.
