Now is the time when the wheel of the year turns to its shortest day and longest night. Often this is a time of reflection and thinking back on the events of the year, but this winter solstice feels like a time of looking forward and leaving the year behind without looking back.
This feels like the way to go because there’s so much that needs to be done and so much damage to undo that there isn’t time to waste. Another reason to look forward is the extended recovery time that’s going to be needed to heal from this soon to be over terrible year. There will be a time to look back and to try to understand exactly what happened, but like a past trauma it will hibernate in the subconscious and resurface after a necessary convalescence.
Today may be the darkest day, but the darkness feels like it’s been with us for much longer. May light prevail, so when we return to the solstice in a year’s time, the darkness won’t feel so all encompassing.
Fiat lux!
